(The A.C.T. Brandon Club Amateur Night, 1948)
1948: The Associated Canadian Travellers Brandon Club
Amateur Night In aid of the Turberculosis Preventive Fund
The big night, the A.C.T. Amateur Contest, was brought to a very
successful conclusion on Saturday night last with a visual broadcast
over CKX Brandon. At both performances the Crandall theatre was crowded
to capacity, and each item on the splendidly arranged program
was well rendered and liberally supported, as the final tally
will bear out. The result, at the present time, will it is believed,
place Crandall at the top of the list of the ce??tr?n on this seasons
broadcasts, with a few hundreds over the $1000. mark.
Great credit is
due to the committees who organized the program, and the contributing
artistes: Vocal solos—Ivy Douglas, Lorna Walker, Miss M. Ferris,
Shirley Crandell, Mayme Johnston, Miss M. Irvine; vocal trio,
Claudia and Sheila Dickey and Bernice Kirk; boys and girls
chorus; violin solo, J.Hazelwood,
all from Crandall. Vocal trio, Olive Smith, Lorne and Lloyd Hazelwood,
piano solo, Mrs. H. Smith; all from Chumah; Ladies double vocal trio;

The very original and well composed address was read by Rev J.M. Wilson,
and the running comment by the announcers made tip a real swell
program —Ed
