Crandall High Scholars Do Well In Exams
Crandell, Man., Aug. 19
(Special) - The results of the Grade XI departmental examinations for the Crandall high school held here last June show a 96.38% pass on all papers written by the nine students. Sylvia Lee led off with an average of 84.18%. Shirley Angus followed with an average of 78.12%. Others who averaged over 70% were Sheila Dickey and Edward Sobkowiez. Beverley Shier and Jean Douglas averaged over 69%.
Beverley Shier topped the class in algebra and geometry with 99% and 98% respectively. Shirley Angus and Edward Sobkowiz each obtained 98% in algebra. Sylvia Lee took 96 in goemetry and 93 in algebra.

Many Scholarships

For the last three years the Crandall high school has averaged 97.12% (pass) on the Grade XI Departmentals. For the last seventeen years it has averaged around 95%. In the twelve years between 1936 and 1948 it has taken six Isbister scholarships (competitive). The province of Manitoba is divided into eight districts. Crandall school is in district No. 3. The scholarships were won by the following students: Alice Hazelwood, 1st Isbister; Glen Smith, 2nd Isbister; Margaret Doupe, 2nd Isbister; Louis Dickey and Margaret Hyndman, 1st and 2nd Isbister in the same year. Besides these, Viola Douglas was awarded a Manitoba Brewers and Hotelkeepers scholarship and Edna Irvine received a Roger Goulet scholarship.
Mr. Geo. Dibblee has been principal of Crandall High School for the past seventeen years.
