Elsie Kirk (nee Phillips)

April 13, 1896 - December 9, 1976


CHUMAH — On December 9, 1976 following a protracted illness, the death of Elsie Kirk occurred at Morley House (Lions Wing), Shoal Lake, Man. Elsie Kirk was the widow of the late Ira N. Kirk, formerly of the Chumah district near Crandall, Man.

Born at Alexander, Man., on April 13, 1896, Elsie (Phillips) Kirk was the fourth child of the late George and Emma Phillips. The Phillips family moved to a farm near Decker, Man., and Elsie Phillips went to Arrowton School, three miles south of Decker.

In November, 1915 Elsie Phillips and Ira N. Kirk were married; and farmed in the Chumah district until the death of Ira N. Kirk in August 1942. Following this, Elsie Kirk lived ten years in Winnipeg, Man., and returned to the family farm with her son, Keith, in 1953, where she resided until May, 1974, when requiring nursing care, she moved to Morley House (Lions Wing) Shoal Lake, Man.

Elsie Kirk was predeceased by two sons: Infant Grenfell Ira in 1930; and Ivan Leroy Kirk in 1975.

Surviving are: Two daughters, Mrs. John A. Milne (Evelyn); and Mrs. W.J. McFaren (Marjorie), both of Winnipeg, Man., and one son, Keith B. Kirk of Crandall, Man. There are also nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

A Private funeral service was held on December 13, 1976 at the Campbell Funeral Chapel, Hamiota, Man., with interment in Crandall cemetery. Rev. Don K. McNeill officiated.

Pallbearers were: Murdo Milne, Gerald Shier, Stan Doupe, Bill Cowling, Brian Johnston, and Lloyd Hazlewood.

Arrangements were in care of the Campbell's Funeral Home, Hamiota, Man.
