Ernest Alfred Barnes
1895 - January 6, 1965
ERNEST ALFRED BARNES ENTERS INTO REST
Another long time resident of Crandall Ernest Alfred Barnes (69) passed
away in Deer Lodge Hospital, where he had gone for a check up on
Wednesday, January 6th, after several years of ill health.
Born in England in 1895 he came to Manitoba at the age of 19, returning
the following year with the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles, C. E. F.
In 1918 he married Miss Flossie Mildred Waller in London and the
following year brought his bride to Miniota. The next spring he bought
the farm now owned by Mr. J. Svoboda but due to ill health was forced
to retire in 1945. Mrs. Barnes died August 15, 1956.
Mr. Barnes was a very active member of the Canadian Legion.
He was Secretary-treasurer of the Miniota Branch for many, years.
March 8, 1958, Mr. Barnes married Mrs. Sarah Clokey of Winnipeg.
Surviving are his wife Sarah and two brothers Leslie and Cyril in
England.
The funeral service was held in Crandall United Church on Saturday,
January 9 at 2 p.m. with Rev V. Bowins in charge. The members of the
Legion attended in a body. Due to the 30 below zero weather, the
Legion Graveside Service was held in the church where the members
formed a Guard of Honor. J. W. Horner sounded The Last Post.
The casket laid to rest in the family plot in Crandall Cemetery by
R. Schoch, Wm. Phillips, E. Douglas, G. Hyndman, M. Bray, Wm. Taylor.
