George Wallis Ariss
July 16, 1907 - October 14, 1996
ARISS: George Wallis
formerly of Lions Manor, Brandon, MB passed away peacefully at
Dinsdale Personal Care Home on Monday, Oct. 14, 1996.
George is
survived by his loving wife Anne of Brandon; son Gerry (Sherry) Ariss;
daughters Edith (Ken) Stephenson; Hazel (Mike) Rudniski, all of Winnipeg,
and daughter Carrol Ariss of Brandon. Also surviving are three
grandchildren: Jason Rudniski of Winnipeg; Jennifer Rudniski and
Tim Kells of Hardesty, AB; Marcia (Ted) Gerlock of Calgary, AB;
sister Lillian (Bob) Young of Hamiota; numerous sisters-in-law,
brothers-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
George was predeceased by his
parents Tom and Lilly Ariss; brother Charlie and son Donnie.
George was
born on July 16, 1907 at Isabella, MB. He worked as a young man for
numerous farmers in the Isabella and McConnell areas. In 1941, he
married Ann Kohuch of Mears, MB. They farmed at Isabella until moving to
Crandall in 1952. In 1973, George and Anne retired to Virden and later
moved to Brandon. George volunteered many hours at Harris Centre in
Virden and at Central Park Lodge in Brandon. George loved to do his wood
working and visiting with his many friends and neighbours as well as
attending meetings with members of the Odd Fellows.
Funeral service for
George was held at the Crandall United Church, Crandall, MB on Saturday,
Oct. 19, 1996 at 1:00 p.m. Active pallbearers were Garry Davis,
Eddie Ariss, Leonard Andrusiak, Edward Maydaniuk, Billy Clark and
Brian Johnson. Honourary pallbearers were George Logan, Art Heise,
Jack Fleming, Norman Brown, Lawrence Anderson and Cliff Williams.
Interment followed at the Crandall Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully
declined. If so desired, donations in George's memory may be made to a
charity of choice.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Dinsdale Home
for their care and support in recent months. Arrangements are with
Brockie Donovan,Brandon.
