George Pittendreigh
July 11, 1912 - April 22, 2006
With love and sadness in our hearts we regret the announcement of the
passing of our dear beloved father, George, on Saturday, April 22, 2006
at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon. George passed away peacefully
after a sudden bout with pneumonia and other respiratory complications.
His family was with him as he passed on to his new journey and to
rejoin his beloved wife Brenda who passed away in 1998 and his son,
Barry, who passed away in infancy. George will be sorely missed by all
his remaining family and friends. George is survived by his two children,
Wayne and Wonda, their spouses, Linda and David, and his three
grandchildren, Cale, Ian, and Kylie.
George was born July 11, 1912
in Crandall, MB. He spent his childhood and formative years in and
around Crandall and Birtle, working at a number of jobs until he
enlisted in the army to fight in World War II. He fought through the
European Campaign and attained the rank of Mechanical Staff Sergeant.
With the end of the war, he returned to Canada and eventually started a
bakery business with his brother Bill. George and Brenda, Bill and Eve
ran a successful bakery business in Hamiota. During this time, George
was also very active in the governance of the Town of Hamiota and was
involved with the Lion's Club, Legion and always had a passion for
local sports like baseball, hockey and curling. After 22 years of
running Pittendreigh's Bakery, George and Bill sold the business and
retired.
George and Brenda spent a brief time out west but then
returned to Brandon. Sometime after Brenda passed away, George moved
into Riverheights Terrace where he made many close and cherished
friends who are also grieved by his passing. It was George's wish
that there be no formal funeral, but there will be a private family
service at Birtle Cemetery, at a later date. It was also his wish, in
lieu of flowers, that friends and family make donations to: The Brandon
Humane Society. 2200-17th Street East. Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6 or
through their website at www.brandonhumanesociety.ca. Messages of
condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com. Arrangements
are in care of Brockie Donovan, Brandon. (204) 727-0694.
