Harvey Spence Hyndman

1897 - February 20, 1981


Born at Crandall, Man. 1897. Passed away at West-Man Nursing Home, Virden, Man. on Feb. 20, 1981. He is surivived by his beloved wife, Molly, one daughter Margaret Brown, of Winnipeg, sons-in-law Robert Brown, Winnipeg and Rev. James Maxwell, Eston, Sask. There are six grandchildren, Denis Brown (wife Wendy), Alan Brown (wife Candice) all of Winnipeg, Michael Brown (wife Shamim) of Vancouver, David and Ian Maxwell, Winnipeg, Shelagh (husband Ronald Caulder) of Banff, and three great grandchildren; Kristen, Jon and Michael Brown.

Mr. Hyndman is survived also by two sisters, Mrs. Kaye Wallace and Ada Hyndman both of Chilliwack, B.C., two brothers, J. Lawrence Hyndman of Vermont, U.S.A., Wesley Hyndman of Noranda, Que., and five nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one daughter, Kathleen Maxwell in 1977, one sister and four brothers.

Mr. Hyndman farmed on the family homestead all of his life, marrying Molly Thring in 1925, at Neepawa Anglican Church. They retired to Crandall in 1947; later residing in Virden since 1967. He was very active in his community, serving as trustee on the Miniota municipal school board later with the council of Miniota RM for 23 years, 12 of them as Reeve. He was chairman of the boy of stewards of Crandall United Church for more than 30 years. He was the first president of Crandall Pool Elevators in 1928 and received a 50-year plaque from Manitoba Pool Elevators in 1978. Since retirement his life has centred around his family especially his grandchildren and his hobbies of music and wood-carving.

Funeral service was held at St. Paul's United Church, Virden on Monday, Feb. 23, 1981 with Rev. Trevor Rutley officiating. Interment was in Virden Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Denis Brown, Alan Brown, David Maxwell, Ian Maxwell and nephews Grant Hyndman and Ronald Coveney. G.R. Carscadden Funeral Chapels Virden in care of the arrangements.
