Harold James Strachan

June 26, 1929 - January 6, 2011


Harold James Strachan of Hamiota passed away suddenly on January 6, 2011 at the age of 81, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Harold was born on June 26, 1929; he attended school in Crandall until his family moved to Decker in 1943 where he finished his education.

On July 2, 1955 he married Florence (nee Musgrove) and together they raised four children, Murray, Calvin, Linda and Judy. In 1961 Harold bought the old Henry Davidson farm north of Decker where he farmed for 46 years and then retired to Hamiota where he resided until his passing.

Harold was a member of the Decker United Church as well as the Decker Legion. Harold was an active community member in both Decker and Hamiota. He was involved in curling, hockey, skating and other activities with his family. Over the last few years he could be seen attending many sporting events involving his grandchildren in the area.

Besides farming Harold was employed by the CNR for 39 years. He built a cabin at Burlington Beach (The Narrows) and for 40 years friends and family has been known to gather there to celebrate and have fun.

Harold is survived by his wife of 56 years Florence, his children Murray (Caroline) Strachan of Brandon, MB, daughter in-law Eve Strachan (nee Cowling) of Hamiota, MB, Linda (Bob) Wickens of Portage La Prairie, MB, Judy (Greg) Rahn of Cochrane AB. He is also survived by brother Ken (Joan) Strachan of Hamiota, MB, his sister Joyce Harms (nee Strachan) of Winnipeg, MB. His grandchildren Megan and Michael Strachan, Whitney and Morgan Strachan, Jason Matthew, Shawn Wickens, Katherine (Jess) Senneker, and Steven Rahn. His great granddaughter Lauren Senneker of Calgary, AB. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son Calvin James Strachan, his parents Joseph and Mary Strachan, and his brother in-law William (Bill) Harms.

Harold will be sadly missed by all who knew him especially Ray and Donna Lints and Faye Scheitzer. He will be forever in our hearts and memories.
