Herald Alexander Rivers
March 6, 1918 - September 8, 2009
Rivers, Herald Alexander died peacefully in the early morning of
Sept. 8, 2009. He was born in Empress, AB on March 6, 1918, where
he attended school to grade 12 and then attended Olds college.
He ranched and rodeoed around Empress until moving to Manitoba in
1947 with his wife and baby daughter. There he farmed adjacent to his
parents south of Pope, MB until moving to Penticton, BC in the spring
of 1967.
He was actively involved in coaching minor hockey, both girls and boys
teams, coaching baseball and a 4-H leader. He had a kind heart and was
always willing to help another whenever and wherever needed, never asking
or expecting anything in return.
Hearld was predeceased by his wife , Muriel; parents, Wes and Annie Rivers
of Hamiota; brother Ralph (Eva) of Dryden, ON; and sisters, Alice in
Empress, Irene (Dave) Clark of Thunder Bay, ON, and Evelyn (Jack) Sheardown
of Hamiota.
He is survived by daughters Linda Rivers, Joyce Rivers and Sandra (Frank)
Hamilton; sons, Ronald and Richard; 10 grandchildren; four great grandchildren
and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints in Penticton on Saturday September 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m.
The family wish to express special thanks to the staff of Westview
Extended Care for the care they gave our father for the many years he resided
there.
