James Hewitt Kirton

- October 14, 1991

At the age of 73 years James Hewitt Kirton died on October 14, 1991. Jim was born and raised on the farm in the Arrow River hills where he so suddenly died. He was the fourth child of W. Hewitt Kirton and Annie (Smith) Kirton. Jim took over the cattle and grain farm from his father and specialized in Shorthorn cattle until his retirement in 1979.

In 1951, he married Mavis Ellen Townson, a teacher, who grew up in Arrow River also. They had one daughter, Anne. In 1968, Jim lost Mavis after her lengthy illness.

In retirement Jim was very busy helping his family who took over the farm, in his communities of Arrow River, Miniota and Crandall. He played the saxaphone in several small bands, Rivers Orchestra and in the Brandon Jazz Band. In 1990, Jim's sister, Gladys Reaman, died and in August of this year his sister, Margaret Elliott passed away. The eldest sister, Mrs. Jean Grant and husband Bill, resides at Abbotsford, B.C.

The funeral was held October 19th, 1991 at Crandall with the interment at Arrow River Cemetery.

We miss his presence here on earth.
