Lyle G. Eyer
May 20, 1919 - March 13, 2009
Lyle Eyer passed away peacefully on March 13 surrounded by family members
and staff from Foster Meadows adult family home. He was born in
Crandall, Manitoba, crossed Canada as a young child with his family in a
box car, and immigrated to Kelso, Washington. There he grew up with parents Will
and Martha, and siblings Frieda, Grace, Zola and Corky. After graduating
from Kelso High he worked at Baker Lumber for nearly 40 years.
In school Lyle was active in leadership activities and was a good athlete,
lettering in basketball, golf, and track. In 1941 he joined the US Army
where he served in an Intelligence unit in Germany. In 1948 he married
his wife of 60 years Joyce (Hansen) Eyer. Together they built a new
home in Kelso where they raised their three children in a Christian home
and were active in community activities, including the Kelso YMCA and the
Kelso Methodist Church where he was a Trustee and sang in the choir.
He loved music, building projects, family, dogs and kids, puns and humour.
He and Joyce spent much time hosting family and friends at their Ocean
Park cabin, where he was King of Eyerland. They also traveled annually
to Maui for many years.
He outlived his four siblings and is survived by wife Joyce, children
Lauritz (and Mary), Mark (and Suzanne) and Camille Osborne (and David),
grandchildren Jared, Kelsey and Kevin, and the extended
Eyer-McDonald-Baker family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on April 4.
In lieu of flowers those who wish may send donations to Hospice of
Kitsap County.
