Mike Chuba
November 12, 1923 - March 9, 2004
CHUBA: It is with great sadness that the family of Mike Chuba announces
his passing on March 9, 2004 at the Hamiota Hospital following a brief
three week illness from a brain stem bleed.
Mike was born in the
R.M. of Strathclair in the Seech area on Nov. 12, 1923, the eldest child
of Nick and Katherine (Drozda) Chuba. Mike is survived by two brothers,
Harry (Sonia) and Peter (Leona) both from Surrey, BC; three sisters,
Jean Dnistranski of Hamiota, Anne Tutakaluke of Shoal Lake and
Helen Ewasiuk of Lake Audy; two sisters-in law, Francis Chuba of
Oakburn, and Pat Chuba of Ottawa, ON; six step-children, two with
whom he maintained close family ties, Ken (Linda) and Gerald (Theresa)
and two step-grandchildren, Michael and Stacey. Mike had many very
special nephews and nieces.
When tragedy struck and Mike's father passed
away he became the head of the family and assisted his mother in
managing the farming operation. To some of the younger children, he was
the only father they knew. He would undertake this task in his quiet
unassuming manner, never complaining, but assisting, encouraging,
scolding when necessary but always supportive.
Mike would work off the
farm in the winter months in Ontario and Northern Manitoba at the pulp
mills and returning in the spring to farm. In 1960 after his task at
hand had been completed Mike ventured off to other points and purchased a
farm in the Crandall area. Mike continued logging until he acquired his
herd of cattle. He spent the next several years establishing a very
successful farming operation, through hard work and integrity. Mike was
always a willing helper when a project was undertaken in the community.
In the mid 1980's Mike sold the farm but resided there for approximately
two years before moving to Shoal Lake. Mike was a hard worker and lived
his life with integrity and honesty and to those that knew him, he was
a friend, a father figure, always supportive, encouraging, caring, loving
and helpful.
A Celebration of Life Mass was held at the Sacred Heart
Roman Catholic Church at Elphinstone, March 13, 2004 with interment at
the Parish Cemetery. A Prayer Vigil was held on the evening of March 12
at Rae's Funeral Chapel. Rev. Deacon Conrad Plante officiated. A long
time family friend, Gerald Ryback assisted and read the readings. A great
nephew, Michael Chuba carried the cross. His pallbearers were nephews
Barry Chuba, Bob Chuba. Larry Dnistranski, Barry Mymko and nieces
Jacqueline Pereira and Anita Chuba.
We are lucky to have known this kind,
gentle man and the family will miss him. He was a gift from God to his
family but now he is a gift to God. Whenever you feel the sun's rays upon
your shoulders, you will always know that Mike is holding you in his own
special way. Mike, you area ray of sunshine the way
yon touched everyone's lives. Take care and keep on shining. Find a
quiet moment to reflect, go back to the place in you, where Mike touched
you. You will find he is still there. He will always be. We love you Mike
and we will miss you. God take care of him. This world will continue,
from this day on there will always come a time for planting, day will
always follow night, and the warm days of summer will always follow the
cold and snow of winter as long as the earth shall be and God always
keeps his promises.
Rae's Funeral Service of Shoal Lake and Erickson
were in care of the arrangements.
