Roland Leon Dickey
April 14, 1882 - December 20, 1964
Roland Leon Dickey Enters Into Rest
Mr. Roland Leon Dickey, who has lived in this community for 75 years,
died at Onawa, Iowa on Sunday, December 20 while he and his wife were
enroute from Crandall to their winter home in Orlando, Florida.
Mr. Dickey, eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Dickey, was born
in St. Mary's, Ontario on April 14, 1882. He came west with his parents
to Virden and then by wagon to their homestead on 12, 14, 25 in 1889.
He received his education at Carlingville School, and, then started
farming on Section 11.
November 28, 1923 he married Miss Clara Mackie who predeceased him
January 10, 1943. In June 1955, he married Mrs. Carolyn Hood of Orlando
Florida. Surviving are his wife Carolyn and one brother Claude of
Crandall.
Mr. Dickey was always interested in the welfare of the community
particularly The United Church, to which he very generously donated
Chimes and then an electric Hammond Organ. He was a member of the
Board of Stewards for many years and was still a member of the Session
at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Cemetery
committee, and an ardent curling enthusiast for many years.
The funeral service was held in McConnell's Funeral Chapel in
Hamiota, on Thursday, December 24th at 2:30 p.m. with
Rev. V. Bowins conducting the service.
The casket was laid to rest in the family plot in Crandall Cemetery
by Messrs E. Douglas, C. R. Lee, D. Johnston, R. Schoch, E. Shier
and S. Doupe.
