William Frank Matthews
May 16, 1924 - February 27, 1949
The sad news that William Frank Matthews, only son of Mr. and Mrs. W.A.
Matthews, of Crandall, had passed away in Winnipeg General hospital,
following an illness of three weeks, on Sunday, February 27, was received
with sincere regret. He was 24 years of age.
He was born in the Crandall district and received his education at
Crandall school and was held in high esteem by all who enjoyed his
acquaintance, and his untimely death has left a vacant place in community
and fraternal circles.
His marriage to Ruth Bernice Pearson, of Hamiota, took place on November
15, 1947.
He was a member of the Loyal Orange Lodge and the Canadian Order of
Foresters.
Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife and parents.
("...he did not live to see his son, Chris", Chronicles of Crandall)
The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon, the service in
the United church being conducted by Rev. J.M. Wilson. The members of
both lodges were present to bid farewell to their departed brother.
Burial was made in Crandall cemetery, the bearers, being R. Gunson,
D. Ferris, J. Fleming, I. Lawrence, L. Johns and W. Cowling.
There were many floral tributes.
