Wilbur Thomas Johns
June 13, 1882 - September 3, 1944
Following the effects of a stroke on Wednesday last, Wilbur Thomas Johns,
aged 63, passed away at his home in the Crandall district on Sunday,
September 3rd.
Born at Exeter, Ont., Mr. Johns came to the west in 1901 to the Hamiota
district, and his marriage to Helen Davidson of Banff, Scotland, took place
in Hamiota in 1911.
In that year Mr. Johns moved to the SW 2-15-25, north of Crandall, where
the family have since resided.
The Johns family have been an asset to the life of the community and were
always ready to do what was right, and every effort was made to advance
the best interests of one and all. Mr. Johns proved himself to be a good
citizen and churchman. He will be sadly missed, but the memory of his life
will remain. Mr. Johns also served on the School Board for a time.
A large number attended the funeral service held in Crandall church on
Tuesday afternoon. Rev. W. Bill conducted the service and burial was made
in Crandall cemetery. The pallbearers were: J. Riddell, Dr. J.H. Fraser,
T.A. Gray, S.J. Hanna, G. Angus and, J. Gunson. There were many beautiful
floral tributes.
His wife and one daughter, Margaret (Mrs Stan. Lelond, Arrow River) and
three sons, Elmer, of Lavinia, Alvin, with the Canadian Army Overseas, and
Lyle at home, a brother, Charles of Tantallon, and a sister Mrs. D. Chapple
of Cromarty, Ont. survive.

Wilbur Thomas Johns, 63, resident of Manitoba since 1901, died at his
home Sept. 3 and was buried in Crandall cemetery Sept. 5. Service was
held in the United church by Rev. William Bill, under Canadian Foresters'
auspices many members attending, led by S.R. Berridge.
Born in Exeter, Ont., Mr. Johns came west, settling first in Hamiota.
He married, in 1911, Helen Davidson of Banff, Scotland, who survives with
three sons and one daughter: Alvin, overseas on active service; Elmer, of
Lavinia, Man., and Lyle, at home; Mrs. Stan Leland, of Crandall; also two
sisters and a brother in Saskatchewan.
