BURROWING OWL
(Spéotyto cuniculária)
A small, long legged owl of the Prairies, usually
nests in burrows of gophers, badgers, or Prairie
dogs. Observered during the day, standing on the
ground or on fence posts. Eats insects and small
rodents. Its call, a cackling, alarm note. At night a
2-note "coo-c-o- o"
