Wascana Bridges: Broad Street Pedestrian Bridge
(Unless otherwise indicated, photos by Don of www.WascanaPark.com)
"This rendering shows the future pedestrian lake crossing at Broad Street.
The new lake level crossing will provide a safe, vehicle separation of the
multi-use Blue Trail away from the upper vehicle traffic corridor. It
will also link this trail to the Red Trail which currently exists underneath
Broad Street Bridge. The Red Trail connects the west and east lake precincts.
New to what exists now will be the addition of the bridge itself plus completion of two
mini plazas, one at each end of the bridge. These people places will
include night lighting, specialized surfacing, interpretive panels and raised planters.
The highlight of the mini plazas will be the two weather-protected seating elements
where park users can meet, rest, and enjoy the great views of Wascana Lake?
Buffer landscaping and connections to the upper Broad Street sidewalks will complete
this project as it was envisioned as part of the Wascana Lake Urban Revitalization
Project (The Big Dig) in 2004. Part of this site work is being undertaken now with the
bridge and seating shelters to occur once project funding has
been achieved.
