Lake Enhancement Project
(Unless otherwise indicated, photos by Don of www.WascanaPark.com)
In preparation of the lake enhancement project
three temporary dams were constructed during the 2nd week of October.
Two sand bag dams were built at Goose Island
One Coffer dam was built east of #1 Highway, towards SIAST.
As the lake level decreases, numerous bottom junk are being exposed.
In addition to the expected bicycles and bottles,
other items include two bathtubs near the legislative dock;
a holed boat further east,
as well as an air conditioner and file cabinet at the old Broad Street Bridge abutment.
The water is draining slower than expected due to the presence of
sandbag dams at Albert Street and Broad Street..
These temporary dams were constructed several years ago
when a section of the north shore near the bandstand was being refinished.
The water is slowly draining out.
The upper pond is beginning to look like a grass field.
1)What looks like a land bridge across to Willow Island, is more likely the remains of a
temporary dam constructed in the 1960's when the area was dredged out.
Near the north end of Willow Island what look like posts in the water are
the remnants of the bridge to Willow Island that was torn down in the 1960's.
